Haunted Places of India

Where history whispers in the dark

The Chronicles

Eleven locations across India, each with its own dark tale etched into history

Bhangarh Fort

Bhangarh Fort Bhangarh Rajasthan Known as India's most haunted site, the fort is reportedly cursed by a jealous sorcerer who was rejected by a princess. The entire town was supposedly laid waste by the curse. Entry is legally prohibited between sunset and sunrise by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Kuldhara Village

The 'Ghost Village' of India. This once-prosperous village was suddenly and completely abandoned overnight in the early 1800s. The Paliwal Brahmins cursed the land before leaving, ensuring no one could ever settle there again. People report seeing shadows and unexplainable activity.

Dumas Beach

An Arabian Sea beach known for its black sand and eerie atmosphere. It was historically a Hindu burial ground, and locals believe the spirits of the dead still roam the shore. Visitors have reported hearing whispers and calls to walk toward the sea, especially after dark.

Shaniwarwada Fort

This 18th-century fort is haunted by the ghost of the young Maratha prince, Narayanrao Peshwa, who was brutally murdered here. Locals claim to hear his cries for help echoing through the ruins on full moon nights.

Dow Hill & Victoria Boys' School

The misty forests and boarding school in this hill station are famous for their dark legends. The main chilling tale involves the sighting of a headless boy walking and then disappearing into the woods. The corridors of the school are also said to be haunted by apparitions.

Ramoji Film City

Built on the former battlegrounds of the Nizam Sultans, it is believed to be haunted by the spirits of dead soldiers. Reports mainly come from film production crews, with accounts of lights falling, sound equipment malfunctioning, and a feeling of being pushed by an invisible force.

Lambi Dehar Mines

These abandoned limestone mines are the site of a disaster in the early 1990s where thousands of workers died from a cholera outbreak or accidents. The area is now deserted, and visitors report hearing unnatural screams and cries emanating from the mines and surrounding hills.

Three Kings Chapel

Located on a small hill, this chapel's haunting stems from the legend of three Portuguese kings who murdered each other here over a territorial dispute. Their spirits are reportedly restless, and visitors have reported a heavy, suffocating presence, especially near the altar.

Brij Raj Bhawan Palace

Now a heritage hotel, the palace is haunted by the gentle ghost of Major Charles Burton, a British officer killed by Indian sepoys during the 1857 revolt. Guards and staff have reported seeing his apparition walking the corridors, mainly in the main hall.

GP Block

An isolated house known for specific, recurrent paranormal activity. Local folklore speaks of witnessing the ghost of a young girl in a red dress and sightings of four men drinking and chatting inside the house, who vanish instantly upon closer approach.

Tunnel No. 33

This old railway tunnel is said to be haunted by the friendly ghost of its original engineer, Colonel Barog. He committed suicide near the tunnel after a miscalculation led to him being fined by the British authorities. His ghost is often described as amiable and sometimes attempts to converse with passersby.
